It includes the functions of learning, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Perception\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">perception<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/kanyarwandamugisha.blogspot.com\/2022\/11\/the-concept-of-memory.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">memory<\/a>, and thinking; and it is influenced by biological, environmental, experimental, social, and motivational factors. The cognitive process involves \u201cchanges in the child\u2019s thinking, <a href=\"https:\/\/kanyarwandamugisha.blogspot.com\/2022\/11\/6-theories-of-intelligence.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">intelligence<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/kanyarwandamugisha.blogspot.com\/2022\/11\/structure-and-theories-of-language.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">language<\/a>\u201d. Cognitive theory is concerned with the <a href=\"https:\/\/support.centreforelites.com\/ru\/definition-of-growth-and-development\/\">development<\/a> of a person&#8217;s thought processes. It also looks at how these <a href=\"https:\/\/kanyarwandamugisha.blogspot.com\/2022\/11\/relationship-between-language-and.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thought processes<\/a> influence how we understand and interact with the world. The foremost cognitive thinker was Jean Piaget, who proposed an idea that seems obvious now, but helped revolutionise how we think about child <a href=\"https:\/\/support.centreforelites.com\/ru\/definition-of-growth-and-development\/\">development<\/a>: Children think differently than adults<span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;\">Historically, the cognitive <a href=\"https:\/\/support.centreforelites.com\/ru\/definition-of-growth-and-development\/\">development<\/a> of children has been studied in a variety of ways. The oldest is through <a href=\"https:\/\/kanyarwandamugisha.blogspot.com\/2022\/11\/measuring-intelligence.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">intelligence tests<\/a>, such as the widely used Stanford, Binet <a href=\"https:\/\/kanyarwandamugisha.blogspot.com\/2022\/11\/measuring-intelligence.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Intelligence Quotient<\/a> (IQ) test first adopted for use in the United States by psychologist Lewis Terman (1877-1956) in 1916 from a French model pioneered in 1905.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB;\">IQ scoring is based on the concept of &#8220;mental age,&#8221; according to which the scores of a child of average intelligence match his or her age, while a gifted child&#8217;s performance is comparable to that of an older child, and a slow learner&#8217;s scores are similar to those of a younger child. <a href=\"https:\/\/kanyarwandamugisha.blogspot.com\/2022\/11\/measuring-intelligence.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IQ tests<\/a> are widely used in the United States, but they have come under increasing criticism for defining <a href=\"https:\/\/kanyarwandamugisha.blogspot.com\/2022\/11\/6-theories-of-intelligence.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">intelligence<\/a> too narrowly and for being biased with regard to race and gender.<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Psychologists have come up with different approaches to cognitive development.
